Himalaya (1999)
First things first, do not miss this movie!
The movie is set in a remote village in the Himalayas, possibly in Tibet, about an annual trip that people make to exchange salt for grain. Karma, a young guy of the village, wants to go earlier than the date set by the lamas, while Tinle, an older guy who led many a caravans during his youth, wants to go at the set time. Hence, the classic struggle between the young and the old. The movie ends with a happy union of the generations, and the torch of life is passed on from Tinle to Karma to Tsering.
The human life will change and the arduous physical journeys may soon become extinct, but the ages old difference of the generations still exists, and possibly will always exist, as long as the human mind continues to evolve.
Movie has an extraordinary soundtrack - it is very simple, yet you cannot forget it for a long time.
Lhakpa Tsamchoe gives an amazing performance as Pema; Gurgon Kyap (as Karma) and Thilen Lhondup (as Tinle) also give great performances. Karma Wangel (as Tsering/Pasang) and Karma Tensing (as Norbou) give memorable performances as well.
All in all, this is a heart warming movie, a must-see.
